What NOM-256-SSA1-2012 requires

The standard is in effect: the Mexican Standards Catalog confirmed it in its last systematic review (January 2, 2023).

The service certificate (section 5.9)

It is given to the service user and must contain:

  • Folio (certificate number)
  • The establishment's name or business name, address and health license number
  • The service user's name or business name and address
  • Name and signature of the technical manager, pest controller or owner who performed the service
  • The company's phone number
  • Type of service: home, commercial, industrial, service or offices
  • Control method used
  • Pesticide or disinfectant applied, with doses and amounts
  • Places and sites treated
  • Pests to be controlled
  • Safety precautions and recommendations before, during and after the application
  • Sketch with the location of traps, baits or other devices, when installed

The standard sets no folio format and doesn't require the client's signature.

Other points of the standard

  • Service log (6.4): the establishment must keep a log with a copy of the certificates of the services performed. The standard sets no retention period for it.
  • Products (5.7): pesticides must have a sanitary registration, be labeled according to the regulations and not be past their expiration date.
  • Re-entry time (7.16.2): where food is sold or prepared, the applicator tells the user the re-entry time and the cleaning needed.
  • Recommendations (7.16.4): written safety recommendations are part of the certificate.
  • Health license (5.2) and technical manager (6.3): the service must have a health license and a technical manager.

How PestSheet covers it

  • Business country "Mexico" in the setup guide or in More > Business profile: the app uses NOM-256 even if the client's state shares a code with a U.S. state
  • Certificate in Spanish with the 5.9 data, checked before you complete the visit
  • Folios without gaps or repeats: each phone numbers in its own series and a draft never takes a number
  • Sketch required only when you install traps or baits
  • COFEPRIS sanitary registration per product, with a link to the official lookup
  • Optional lot and expiration date; if the product had expired on the service date, the app won't complete the visit
  • A field for the re-entry time, printed in the recommendations
  • Service log as PDF with a copy of each certificate and as CSV (Pro)
  • Quotes and invoices as a "Nota de venta" with no tax validity: you issue the CFDI with the SAT or your PAC
