Pesticide application records in South Dakota

What ARSD 12:56:07:01 asks for on each structural pest control record, how long to keep it and what the customer must get, based on our reading of the rule. And how PestSheet covers it.

Not legal advice. This summarizes our research of the official rule, checked October 2, 2026. Rules change and may require more than what is listed here: confirm with the official text or with the agency (South Dakota Department of Agriculture).

  • Person who applied
  • Trade or brand name and common name of the pesticide
  • Company name on the product label
  • Weather: wind direction and estimated speed and temperature (not for bait stations or applications in or immediately adjacent to structures)
  • Amount applied and its concentration
  • Site treated

How long to keep it

3 years.

What the customer gets

  • Provide a copy of the record upon written request.

Termites, fumigation and other cases

  • The rule does not require the EPA registration number or the applicator's license number.

How PestSheet covers it in South Dakota

Before you complete a visit for a client in South Dakota, PestSheet checks that these fields are filled in:

  • Target pest
  • Areas or sites treated
  • Size of the area treated
  • Amount applied
  • Rate or dilution

For exterior applications, it also asks for:

  • Weather (wind, temperature)

Also:

  • Reminds you to keep records at least 3 years.
  • Export the records of any period as PDF or CSV for an inspection (Pro).

The client's name and address, the service date and start time, and the applicator's name are always recorded. The app uses the ARSD 12:56:07:01 template. It doesn't check items the app doesn't record (for example active ingredients or equipment); those remain your responsibility.
