Pesticide application records in Illinois

What 77 Ill. Adm. Code 830.820 asks for on each structural pest control record, how long to keep it and what the customer must get, based on our reading of the rule. And how PestSheet covers it.

Not legal advice. This summarizes our research of the official rule, checked October 1, 2026. Rules change and may require more than what is listed here: confirm with the official text or with the agency (Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)).

What the record must include

  • Name and address of the customer or site of application
  • Name of the technician applying the pesticide
  • Date and time of the application
  • Target pest or purpose of the application
  • Brand or common name of the pesticide
  • EPA registration number
  • Percentage of active ingredient in the finished product
  • Amount of each finished product used (estimate within 10%)

How long to keep it

2 years. Kept at each business location. Restricted use pesticide records must be kept separate from general-use records.

What the customer gets

  • The business must provide copies of service records when the current owner, manager or tenant of the serviced property asks for them.

Termites, fumigation and other cases

  • Termite treatment records must include a diagram with foundation types and accurate dimensions of the treated structures.
  • A certified technician must document review of records made by non-certified technicians (name, certification number and dates of service).

How PestSheet covers it in Illinois

Before you complete a visit for a client in Illinois, PestSheet checks that these fields are filled in:

  • Target pest
  • EPA registration number
  • Rate or dilution
  • Amount applied

Also:

  • Reminds you to keep records at least 2 years.
  • Export the records of any period as PDF or CSV for an inspection (Pro).

The client's name and address, the service date and start time, and the applicator's name are always recorded. The app uses the 77 Ill. Adm. Code 830.820 template. It doesn't check items the app doesn't record (for example active ingredients or equipment); those remain your responsibility.

What we could not confirm

  • We could not confirm against the official text the school and day-care notification rules in 225 ILCS 235/10.2.
